12-28-09 Cutie Kyle in Belmont Shore

It appears as though it's been quite a while since my last post, it has! I took a nice long vacation for Christmas to California with my dear family. It was a relaxing and quiet 10 days. We watched the baby do everything from almost walk to eating mud. I'll post pictures of that soon. In the mean time, I shot a headshot for Kyle Roberts while we were there.
His agent is sending him for comedy, he wants to do drama and his hair alone is a character actor.

Please enjoy

12.4.09 Alanna + Nate Engaged!

Alanna + Nate won an engagement session from us at the Weddings Unveiled event in October. We actually met them a couples times before they won the package, so we were so excited to get to work with them. Alanna went to school for Photography and her taste is very specific, she wasn't finding the right photographer out there. I think we've won her over.

She saw her engagement pictures and she said
"Melanie we LOVE THEM!! Thank you so much, these are everything we hoped they would be :)" and "Those pics are AWESOME. You made us look great, we are a little in love with ourselves now. :) We keep looking at them, it's cute Nathan probably looks at them more than I do."

So we are very happy and proud to have taken part in their new life together.
Hope to see you in October, guys.
Be Well

12-1-09 whoa... already?

Where has this year gone? I mean I understand that we had a new baby in January and essentially started our business this year. But honestly, do we deserve this year, the years whizzing by like loose calendar pages? Are we living in a Frank Capra film? I understand as you age, time becomes more about the people and things in your life, more so than about you alone. But really, this quick?!
My husband's family has the most amazing tradition. Every year on Christmas Eve we all gather around the Christmas Tree and talk about our year to a video camera and after we report on our year we sing Christmas Carols for an hour or so. It's such an amazing tradition. The first year I visited his home for Christmas I participated in this tradition that was almost 10 years ago. I'm glad I started at the beginning because before we tape this year's "Christmas Eve Program" we watch the "Program" from 10 years ago.
The first year I visited and saw the program my husband was 16 years old and during his year talked all about getting his drivers license. So cute. The first year they have it on video my husband is just 8 years old and he reads "The Night Before Christmas" for the camera. These pieces of our family's history are priceless. And I'm glad I get to be part of them.
This year our son gets to make his debut. I can only imagine how amazing it will be for him when he's 30 and brings his wife home and gets to see what it was like when he was just 1 year old.
Try it. I felt hokey on camera the first couple of times but now I know to make a note of all of the years events and be ready when it's my turn to speak.
I hope this Holiday Season is the best it's ever been.
All the Best.

11.7.09 Stacy + Rocky Married!

Stacy + Rocky were married in Driftwood at the beginning of November. We met them back in the spring and we all just fell in love. They are so stinking cute, they have all of these wonderful(and not so wonderful) inside jokes and you can see just how much they enjoy each other in the images. I was honored to capture their wedding for them.
All the best to the both of you, and you families.
As always, you can find more images on facebook.

11.5.09 Christina + Matt Married!

Christina and Matt, super cute couple. Christina has this cute way of grabbing Matt's face and squishing it in her hands and laying a giant smackaroo right on him. I thought this llittle token of affection was so cute while shooting their engagements session a few months ago. At the wedding I met her mom and dad, and I now see where she gets it ;)
She is the fittest person I know, in-fact I'm a little embarrassed to be her facebook friend, because she works out all the time and I feel a bit like a schlub with all of the fun size twix bars I have swimming around in my gullet... I like twix better than spin class, I bet. She sure did look fantastic. What a beauty.
Like on a silver platter, we were delivered the most beautiful day of 2009. The weather was perfect and the location, Chapel Dulcinea, was stunning! A quick commute up Mopac in rush hour traffic on Friday (seriously the traffic was insanely traversable, I beat the bride and groom to the reception.) Cocktails, dinner and dancing were enjoyed by all @ the Iron Cactus downtown. Lauren and I had a great time working with you guys and we wish you a wonderful and happy life together, congratulations!

11-2-09 Pet Project

I don't shoot a ton of stills. But I started working on this little project quite a while ago. You can shoot all day long and the spent fruit never gets tired.
We eat a lot of fresh vegetables in our house and occasionally one of them will get away from us and get tucked away until we find it again later, usually with a spawn. They don't seem to rot they instead sprout. They are so beautiful when they sprout I can't resist shooting them. Sadly other people don't think so. Steve leaves them for me but if my mother in law or my mom come in town I'll find a shiny new vegetable in the place of the old sprouted one. So I'm careful to get them shot and out of the house before we have company.
Here is the latest. It's a Turnip. And it was still yummy for dinner last week.

10-15-09 Devon + Alberto Married!

Married in Salado at a small family Catholic Church and their reception was held at Salado Wine Sellers. Their dance floor was set up outside on the front lawn, so beautiful and charming...romantic.
I spoke a little about them a few days ago. They met while attending West Point. Married while on active duty in Afghanistan separated by miles of desert, with a power of attorney. She secretly bought him a ring and sent it to him while he was away. It's such a lovely story and now the Army cannot separate them again. Since they have to serve they can serve together.
We wish you both the very best, it was quite an honor to work with you.
Thank you for your service.

10-17-09 Sheri + Richard Engaged!

Sheri + Richard live in the cutest little neighborhood in NE Austin. They are planning their wedding for their backyard in the spring. The two have landscaped quite exceptional grounds for their small plot of land. good gardeners. I had to really control myself when chatting with Richard, I think he may know quite a lot about the subject and I didn't want him to have to plan my next year's plantings. But I did let him carry my bag. haha. Not a figure of speech, he toted my extraordinarily heavy bag for our 15 minute walk through the park, quite the gentleman. Thank You. We had a blast together as always. If I haven't said it enough... "I LOVE my job!"
Thanks for looking, you can find the rest of the images on facebook <here>

Nancy + John Married

This is the first couple I have had the pleasure to walk through all of the steps with them. If you've been stalking you know their whole story as I have been posting bits and pieces as I go about who they are and why I just LOVE these guys. I'm glad to finally share the conclusions ot their wedding experience. The wedding was held at Hacienda del Lago click <here>. But the way I LOVE Hacienda the partners who own and mange the place are the most accommodating folks I have ever met they are not only willing but eager to help and make things great every step of the way. Seriously one of the owners actually shielded me from the rain for a quick spat during the ceremony. I love these guys and the place is gorgeous, a real stunner. You'll be seeing alot of my work spotlighting this place in the coming months, if you haven't seen it go. You won't be sorry.
Anyway back to Nancy and John, what a raucous party. Complete with a complete Michael Jackson impersonation and lip-syncing, Awesome!! Nancy was the most mellow bride I have ever had the pleasure of working with, it's raining and 4 people are making plans foe the event and Nancy, cool as a cucumber, appeared to be ignoring the hub-bub. She just sat contented having her make-up applied by Kelly Kitchen from Defining Styles click <here>. A teensy bit wet but gorgeous affair. I congratulate you guys and wish you a wonderful life together.
As always you can see more images on facebook click <here>.
Thanks for looking.
