10-15-09 Devon + Alberto Married!

Married in Salado at a small family Catholic Church and their reception was held at Salado Wine Sellers. Their dance floor was set up outside on the front lawn, so beautiful and charming...romantic. 

I spoke a little about them a few days ago. They met while attending West Point. Married while on active duty in Afghanistan separated by miles of desert, with a power of attorney. She secretly bought him a ring and sent it to him while he was away. It's such a lovely story and now the Army cannot separate them again. Since they have to serve they can serve together. 

We wish you both the very best, it was quite an honor to work with you.

10-17-09 Sheri + Richard Engaged!

Sheri + Richard live in the cutest little neighborhood in NE Austin. They are planning their wedding for their backyard in the spring. The two have landscaped quite exceptional grounds for their small plot of land. good gardeners. I had to really control myself when chatting with Richard, I think he may know quite a lot about the subject and I didn't want him to have to plan my next year's plantings. But I did let him carry my bag. haha. Not a figure of speech, he toted my extraordinarily heavy bag for our 15 minute walk through the park, quite the gentleman. Thank You. We had a blast together as always. If I haven't said it enough... "I LOVE my job!"

Nancy + John Married

This is the first couple I have had the pleasure to walk through all of the steps with them. If you've been stalking you know their whole story as I have been posting bits and pieces as I go about who they are and why I just LOVE these guys. I'm glad to finally share the conclusions ot their wedding experience. The wedding was held at Hacienda del Lago click <here>. But the way I LOVE Hacienda the partners who own and mange the place are the most accommodating folks I have ever met they are not only willing but eager to help and make things great every step of the way. Seriously one of the owners actually shielded me from the rain for a quick spat during the ceremony. I love these guys and the place is gorgeous, a real stunner. You'll be seeing alot of my work spotlighting this place in the coming months, if you haven't seen it go. You won't be sorry.

Anyway back to Nancy and John, what a raucous party. Complete with a complete Michael Jackson impersonation and lip-syncing, Awesome!! Nancy was the most mellow bride I have ever had the pleasure of working with, it's raining and 4 people are making plans foe the event and Nancy, cool as a cucumber, appeared to be ignoring the hub-bub. She just sat contented having her make-up applied by Kelly Kitchen from Defining Styles click <here>. A teensy bit wet but gorgeous affair. I congratulate you guys and wish you a wonderful life together.

10-15-09 Off to a Thursday Wedding

Today I have the pleasure of shooting Devon and Alberto's wedding. 

They met while attending West Point together and married while on active duty in Iraq. They had a hard time finding a place to get married all of the other enlisted folks could easily point out 6 places to get divorced, none of them knew where to tie the knot. Devon was working in intelligence and Alberto spent upwards of 9 months building a new base. Devon got Alberto's power of attorney and went to the Justice of the Peace and married them in his absence and sent him a surprise wedding ring through military post. When their missions were complete they returned to the states and began their lives together which includes this intimate little Thursday wedding at a Salado Winery. I feel so proud. Thank you for including me.

Besides getting ready to embark on a fresh new marriage, they are both getting ready to embark in fresh new careers. I always get so pumped to work with people who are so much about the world that they choose careers that can change it. A social worker and a teacher, not sexy right, but so rewarding. I thought everyone got out of school like me, wanting to be famous... am I shallow?! I'm glad they're not. You guys impress me... I'm honored to be working with you.

10.9.09 Textiles

My Mother and Father-in-Law are in town for a wedding last weekend and record convention this weekend. So they've spent the week with us hanging out and playing with the baby and just over-all making our lives a little easier. In April my MIL, Patty, helped me pick out textiles for a set of curtains and out dining area, probably our favorite part of the house. Those textiles have been collecting dust since then and this week she convinced me to start working on the curtains. So we have been working on them together, it feels like an excerpt from a coming of age novel but it really has been such a blast and honestly I'm not sure I ever would have found the time to do it on my own. Maybe once the baby is graduating or something. The pattern on the fabric from Franny's <here> is a delicious retro orange a brown combo. We almost forgot what it looked like and got all giddy again when we rolled out the bolt again for the firs time.

10-3-09 Nancy's Bridal

Nancy's mom is suffering from cancer and we wanted to make sure that we got many, many pictures of her at the wedding but in her advanced stage she gets very tired now and we were concerned that she might not be up for it on Nancy's wedding day, today.

Nancy opted to include her mom in her bridal session and here are the images from Hacienda del Lago,  in Asutin, Tx.

 Guess what!! the Polka Dot Bride also picked up this story and ran it on her blog. If ou haven't seen it alreayd you must, must must see it. It's an important tool in any wedding planning arsenal.

10-2-09 Brandi + Lee II

I had a location in mind that I have been aching to shoot and I couldn't get any of my couples on board, they were just not seeing what I saw. Luckily, Brandi + Lee agreed to go even if they weren't 100% sold on this location. So they get their cake decorating set-up and I get my bridge set-up. Though there is so much more there to explore and I want to get under there again and play some more. Who's next? I didn't post these yesterday because I thought they were so different from the others it would only muddle both of their looks so here it is today. 

Incidentally, The Knot has decided to start a section on their website about creative engagement sessions and Brandi + Lee are going to be the lead story to start that out next week... I am beside myself with excitement. It's our first acceptance into The Knot and hopefully just the start of many more to come!!! I'll post a link when it available.

10-1-09 Brandi + Lee Engagement

I wish I could say I came up with the concept myself. But I didn't. Brandi + Lee are both chefs, they met in culinary school together. Brandi is a pastry chef, and deathly afraid of cameras and Lee is a sushi chef. They started dating 8 years ago and after only 2 weeks under there belt, they moved in together and here they are today. Their couplehood is a perfect balance. It's amazing to watch the 2 of them mellow the other of kick the other into gear. That's what you need, one of each. 

We had an amazing afternoon together (even Brandi thinks so.)  She might even be free of her fear... or not.

Brandi + Lee even pacified me by going to a location of my choice, a place I have been aching to shoot since I moved to Austin. It was just as beautiful as their kitchen, but totally different so I'll post those images tomorrow.
